We are all one in Christ is such a beautiful reference from Paul. Yet those patriarchal forces went askew. May, as Hans Kung so well said, the paradigm shifts that need to occur take place with organisations like yours and others. Please feel lots of support from many levels and faithful even though a “saint” has warned us not to '‘go there.’ We must feel that all are welcome and see how the Spirit keeps giving such a plethora of gifts to all loving believing people. May beauty, grace surround you and boost you. — FV
I am a 64 year old woman who from an early age couldn’t understand why there were no women priests. I have managed to express my opinion with practically every priest I have met. I have enjoyed watching nearly 90% of them almost choke trying to come up with an answer. I have gone on to say that as far as I am concerned I see no reason why we cannot have a woman Pope someday. Thank you for doing this much needed work. — EK
I love you so much ... years ago before the UK's referendum on the EU... you taught me that leaving won't sort the problem. I admire and laud you xx keep going xx change is coming — EH
Thank you for your strength and inspiration to me and many other women 😊 -TT
Go for it! BK
The boys club isn't working for them anymore. Maybe they should come up with a better model. - TK
Jesus chose a woman to be the first to preach the Gospel, which is now forbidden in the church. SMH. - AL
The Church has no authority to NOT ordain women either! Much of the history and politics about refusal to ordain women is steeped in abuse of power and authority. - SPS
There were women ministers in the First Century. Then patriarchy took hold. - MM
Thanks you for responding well even to those who want to rant online [on your Facebook Page]. I appreciate your relaxed and informed approach. - MP
Many concepts were viewed as being set in stone until circumstances changed, society's consciousness changed, and suddenly the stone began to crumble. - HRR
If women would assert themselves and boycott Mass in protest, say for a month, and not write the checks for the church, you would see change happen pretty quickly. We are all tired of the same old excuses for keeping women out of the priesthood. How about it, ladies? Maybe it will take some organized action, such as Greta Thunberg is heading up for climate change. Just a thought. Any other ideas? - CL
A lot of women have faith and charisma. If it weren't for women, most men and a lot of kids would never get to church on Sunday or any other day. And yet we're not good enough to be priests? It's a power thing with men, and a control issue. Same goes for birth control. - CL
Just do it. - CFG
Our Lady Herself was led into the Holy of Holies as a three-year-old girl, and is depicted in the altars of Her Son ever since; how much more should Her many daughters be permitted to follow Her example?? - AC
The time is now. Not after we are all dead. - WP
How about pushing on that door and get it open! - BF
How long? - LW
No time like the present! - JKJ
That time has long passed. The Blessed Mother brought the body and blood of Our Lord into the world and Mary of Magdala was an apostle as was Junia. - RC
As they continue to placate women with empty promises, other churches have welcomed women to answer God’s call and serve at the altar. As long as women stay under their thumb, hoping for a miracle nothing will change. Without women, the whole structure would collapse. - HM
The Catholic Church will have no choice if it wants to survive. - SM
As an ordained woman minister in a conservative Lutheran body, I would say the prejudice and bias that still exist is getting ridiculous.... I pray for you all that you can uplift your voices and have people see beyond reason that Jesus called us all to serve His Holy church, His Living Word! - NC
The time is now. - MM
In eternity time does not exist. The Church SHOULD be a reflection of the Kingdom of God, but it is not due to this ridiculously huge institutional ego. - NN
It will be too late for me but whenever that day comes whether I am on this earth or the next place, I will be rejoicing. - CO
HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE?? - LR
Right on, ladies. We are tired of waiting. - CL
I used to play Mass on my front porch using my new St. Joseph Missal and graham crackers. Had little goblets from my new toy kitchenware set and the creamer made for a nice cruet for the juice. - MD
Women's Ordination folks, PLEASE PERSIST. Keep speaking truth to patriarchal power. Please ignore the comments of the arrogant and self righteous who think they speak for God. Women are called, anointed and ordained by the Holy Spirit. - HF
People have asked me why I got a Masters of Divinity when I knew I would never ever EVER even come close to ordination.. While I know I will never get my fondest wish come true. I comfort myself that I believe someday women WILL be ordained. - CO
Past time to ordain women. - JJD
And if discrimination against women is so core to the religion then what? Religion is a device created by dominant males to subdue and man-ipulate the unthinking residue. - PL
If women did the same thing the Catholic church did where they founded a church where men couldn't be priests--only women could--you'd see just how quickly men would be calling them hags, vipers, snakes, and/or whores. Institutional men can be really repressive. :( - ESM
Holy Anger is justified; radical action is Love/Transformation for the common good - ES
the major difference between the male and female approach, and why so much corruption of Jesus' teachings has crept in. Women are not in essence seeking power when asking for ordination as priests. Women are responding to the Holy Spirit and are offering their obedience in service to the community. Power and career, although possibly important factors for women, are not the primary motivation. - SPS
Occupy the Vatican. - NN
There is a sickness in the Church and it just becomes too much to bear. - KB
The Roman Catholic "theology" as to why women cannot be priests, indeed that the Church herself, CANNOT ordain women has never held water with me. The ridiculous notion that when a Priest is offering the Sacrifice at the altar he is standing in for Christ, therefore he must be male (as Christ is male) is, well, ridiculous. Is the Essence of Christ's divinity his "maleness ?" Is that his defining qualification ? I know, Christ is the Bridegroom and the Church is the Bride "reasoning", "so Christ must be male ". Again, ridiculous. By this same reasoning, only females could make up the Bride of Christ, since, you know, only a male can marry a female. Either everything is metaphor, or everything is literal. You can't have it both ways.
If the Priest is taking the place of Christ at the Altar ( metaphorically), why does the Priest have to literally be a male ? Why, if said priest, is standing in for Christ, are we not literally feeding on the priest's body and blood ?!
The first depictions of Altar's for the celebration of the Eucharist show a man and a woman at the Altar, concelebrating. Yes, the current teaching of a male only Priesthood is heresy. - MGW
Those "dangly parts" make all the difference in the world, apparently. Truth is, the "natural resemblance" would also require that priests be of Jewish origin and circumcised. And married to boot. - ED
In His human body, Jesus, the Christ, had many specific characteristics besides his maleness. He was Semitic Caucasian, not European Caucasian, African, Asian or Polynesian. Yet male members of those racial and ethnic groups can be ordained. Jesus only lived in his earthly body until his 30's, yet this does not preclude more mature or even elderly men from being ordained. Jesus and pretty much all of His early followers were Jews by culture and religion and lived in what is today the country of Israel, yet men from any culture and any birthplace can be ordained. Jesus spoke Aramaic and Hebrew with, perhaps, some Latin or Greek, yet the Mass may now be said in any language and was probably never said in Aramaic after the first few centuries. Since when is the gender of anyone, especially Jesus, that individual's sole defining characteristic? - AB
