WOW Advent Prayer
Women's Ordination Worldwide (WOW) Prayer
O Holy One, You who are Creator of all,
who made humanity in Your image
Saviour of all, who called women and men
to witness Your ministry, death and resurrection,
Inspirer of all who seek and serve,
We thank You for the women You have blessed with Your call
to celebrate the Eucharist,
to minister alongside their brothers in a renewed Roman Catholic Church.
We pray that the Church will soon welcome and nourish to the full
the gifts of women as priests, prophets and leaders,
knowing, as Mary of Nazareth knew,
that with You all things are possible.
Amen
Prayer for WOW's Third International Conference
Gender, the Gospel and Global Justice
Philadelphia 2015
We are mindful that Your Spirit, Loving Creator, has awakened in us and in those upon whose shoulders we stand, an awareness of Your Life and Voice within and around us. We listen, clothed in the sacred garments of the Good News of Jesus the Christ. We listen, assured that You have formed and gifted our hearts and minds for all that calls us forward. We listen, believing with gratitude, that you have prepared us for this moment in history when women shall stand firmly and fully in any and every dimension of ministry.
Help us, those who plan this important conference, and those who plan to participate in its offerings, to drink deeply of Your Wisdom and Vision as revealed in the Gospel. May that Cup of the Gospel assist us as we gather from around the globe to create a conference which will offer ways to seek and proclaim, and thereby reveal the Gospel pathway of justice for women and men, their children, people of faith everywhere, and for our living planet that nourishes all life dwelling upon it.
Our hope and our belief is that Your Justice will arise anew in every person attending this conference, and that this same Justice, in the power of Love, will fill willing hearts with courage and commitment to carry forth Love’s Light around this planet to wherever and whomever is in need of Light. Help us and all people whom we serve to immerse ourselves in the Gospel.
Amen
Edwina Gateley's: 'Mary Magdalene'
Ah, Mary of Magdala,
they did not tell us
your story.
It was lost,
buried deep
in layers
of fear and denial,
that such a one as you--
Female,
fiercely loyal friend of Jesus--
could walk so closely
with the Son of God.
He looked upon you, Mary,
and saw
your soul beauty
starved for light
and voice.
The man, Jesus,
capable like a lighting rod
of burning through darkness,
recognized you,
Mary of Magdala,
as his own--
friend, companion, apostle.
You never left him, Mary,
faithful friend,
even as the authorities closed in--
Did your woman heart beat faster
as the crowds grew bigger
and his words spread
through the land?
Did you nurture
a fragile hope
that the crowds
would be raised up too
and throw off
their demons of oppression?
You knew, Mary,
what that would mean,
you knew that life
would never, ever,
be the same again.
Others have lived your story,
the mothers and wives,
the daughters and sisters
of El Salvadore and Columbia,
Russia and Iraq,
Sudan and Bosnia,
Guatemala and South Africa,
and many, many more.
How was it with you,
Mary of Magdala,
standing in the place of revelation,
singular woman witness
of the Resurrection?
How was it
to be bereft
and then be thrust, still weeping,
into the Realm of God?
To run then , with that vision--
that news of life--
to those who live in fear?
We need to claim
your vision
breaking through
dead history
into our warm lives.
We need to find you,
Mary of Magdala.
In the torn threads
of our own journeys,
we need to weave you, Mary,
sister and friend,
into our lives
that we stir and rise.
Ah, Mary , brave woman of Magdala,
we too will run
singing our song
of resurrection
with you, soul sister,
into the bright,
bright sun.
